Resumen:
Illness and hospitalization significantly change the usual life of a child and his family, causing suffering on the part of both, mainly due to chronic conditions, such as cancer, altering the daily through the hospitalization time and physical limitations provided. From the perspective of health professionals, nursing staff should work with the playful and toy as an ally in your daily do, understanding that such a tool is presented as a relevant resource in the development of a quality nursing care with the pediatric client. From this perspective, the present study aimed to understand the effects of play in the treatment of children with cancer, from the perspective of nursing professionals. This is a study with a qualitative, exploratory, conducted in the department of Pediatric Oncology, University Hospital Alcides Carneiro, in Campina Grande, Paraíba. The study sample was composed of four nurses and six nursing technicians of this sector. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and were analyzed using the content analysis method, based Bardin. From the analysis, three categories emerged: the ludic as aid in the development of psychological and biological child, play as a strategy for reducing the suffering caused by the disease, improving treatment adherence and knowledge of the nursing staff about the play. Thus, the study showed that the inclusion of recreational activities in the hospital greatly contribute to the development of psychological and biological child, and provide joy, satisfaction, reducing stress and suffering caused by the disease. Thus, this research makes us realize the importance of the environment in which these practices pediatric oncology, and is also a strategy to improve the humanized care in the hospital environment.
