Obesity is a multifactorial disease, costly and growing prevalence, characterized today by taking one of the main public health problems, leading to compromised health. This disease makes possible the emergence of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, heart disease, degenerative joint disease, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, among others. The obese besides being affected by physiological damage, may also have psychological changes such as feeling self-deprecating, self-indulgence, anxiety and changes in eating behavior, thus leading him to depression and leaving it susceptible to social isolation . The present study aimed to investigate the perceptions of obese women in relation to their body and their influence on his life. This is a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative, attended by 20 women attending an outpatient in Basic Health Units in the municipality of Cuité / PB. Inclusion criteria for study were: women who presented BMI ≥ 30, who were aged 18 years and who agreed to participate. To be invited to participate in the study, participants were informed about the purpose of the study. Secrecy, anonymity and withdrawal at any time of the survey were guaranteed by the participation of a Term of Consent, provided at time of interview. The criteria used complied with Resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council that guides research involving humans. He also asked permission to record the interviews. The survey was conducted after approval by the Ethics and Research and later, with the consent of the Secretary of Health of the City of Cuité / PB, chosen as the research site. Data were collected in February 2013, through a semi-structured interview, using the recording system, which were analyzed in the light of technical analysis of the Collective Subject Discourse (CSD), suggested by Lefèvre and Lefèvre. From the analysis yielded the following core ideas: "Distortion of body image", "Discrimination and social constraint"; "Restriction in work activities" and "emotional dissatisfaction in life." The study showed that women entered the study participants showed dissatisfaction with their body when faced with the mirror, who are marginalized before the society, that had limitations in daily activities and who have difficulties to relate due to self -esteem and shame of their bodies. After the discussion of the data came to the conclusion that obesity besides causing physical changes and problems such as social exclusion, which leads to discrimination and prejudice, since the construction of this phenomenon is not only the individual and social factors pertaining to individual, but as far as their interaction dynamics of assimilation and accommodation information about the social category of being obese, beyond the stereotypes related to treatment regimens for mental, on the person suffering from obesity. This monograph drives other research in the field of
obesity, seeking the understanding of self-image, and the influence of this pathology in the life of every individual.
