Abstract:
Dyes found in textile effluents are difficult to degrade and often cannot be removed by conventional treatments. There is a wide variety of methods to treat these compounds, among them, the adsorption that has been highlighted by the high efficiency in their removal. To this end, the objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of removal of methylene blue dye by adsorption on Azadirachta indica A. JUSS, Nim. For this, coal has undergone two types of treatment: chemical and a physical and chemical. The characterization of the material had been made by instrumental analysis such as Scanning Electron Microscopy and X-ray Diffractometry. The results of activation through the combination of physical and chemical treatments were more favorable to the adsorptive process in relation to chemical activation, with superior yield ranging from 17% to 46.7%. Finally, activated charcoal produced from Azadirachta indica A. JUSS has shown potential for removal of methylene blue.
