Resumen:
Tuberculosis, a health problem in Brazil and other twenty one countries, which, together sum 80% of all cases in the world. For the treatment of this disease, isoniazid remains the drug of choice. The adsorption has been used as one of the promising techniques seeking low-cost adsorbents with high adsorption capacity. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the adsorption of isoniazid on chitosan, promoting an alternative using of regional products as adsorbents. The maximum capacity of adsorption isotherm was determined from tests in stirred tank trough an isotherm, using isoniazid prepared into organic solvent at different concentrations of isoniazid, with constant mass of adsorbent during two hours. Chitosan have been able to adsorb isoniazid used in appreciable quantities using isopropanol as organic solvent being important in the antibiotic purification, even having diffusional limitations, possibly caused by the use of this solvent. Furthermore, adsorption isotherm was quite satisfactory presented suggesting a heterogeneous surface of the adsorbent mainly due to the different experimental groups found on their surfaces according to Langmuir and Freundlich’s models.
