Abstract:
The process of urbanization, if not carried out in a sustainable way, results in social and environmental problems, such as the disordered occupation in peripheral areas that may reduce the availability of basic services to the population and which are itemized without proper planning in the watershed by the local population and public authorities. One of the consequences of this process is the increase of runoff, being one of the stages of the hydrological cycle that can directly influence the behavior of the watershed is the subject of study in water resources engineering. This study aimed to estimate and analyze runoff in a watershed in the city of Itaporanga-PB. Curve number (CN) and triangular synthetic unit hydrograph (HUT) methodologies, both proposed by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), were employed. The analysis and comparison of the pre-urbanization and current urban densification scenarios between 2010 and 2018 was made. An increase of 58,82% in the maximum flow (peak flow of the hydrogram) between the studied scenarios was estimated. The results obtained can be used as a basis for planning and carrying out future urban drainage works at the site.
