Abstract:
Low back pain is a common complaint in the general population, being a symptom frequently reported during pregnancy. Its etiology is multifactorial, however, changes in hormone concentrations are considered one of the most important causes for the onset of low back pain and consequent impairment of quality of life of pregnant women. In this perspective, it is essential that health professionals can offer guidance on the prevention and / or minimization of LBP in this group. Objective: To determine the prevalence of low back pain in this population and its influence on quality of life of the pregnant woman. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, exploratory and descriptive quantitative approach with 70 pregnant women assisted in the network Family Health Strategy of the municipality of Cuité - PB. Data collection lasted three months being held from June to August 2013. The instrument used included objective and subjective questions involving the identification and characterization of the socio-demographic informants as well as related aspects obtétricos and lumbar pain. To better characterize the pain is still used Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the McGill pain questionnaire. The data were presented descriptively in the form of tables and graphs and discussed in the light of literature. The research protocol was approved by the Ethics and Research of the University Hospital Alcides Carneiro (HUAC). Results: The low back pain was present in 87.1% of the sample becomes present among pregnant women daily, for a period exceeding sixty minutes and intensely, being characterized as throbbing as. Low back pain is also expressed more intensely among multiparous and those who underwent cesarean delivery. For pain relief, were strategies used by pregnant women as drug use, prolonged standing and walking. Even the most important referring back pain, which reverberated negatively on quality of life of pregnant women, the example of functional impairments in sleep quality and emotional aspect, only 10.0% mentioned having received information on minimizing the symptom. Among the professionals involved in the guidelines were doctors and nurses, who used the oral individual approach to provide information to pregnant women. To minimize the symptom of pain pregnant women reported resorting mainly to drugs. Conclusion: Low back pain is a common symptom among pregnant women, which causes significant physical and emotional impact, it should be better valued by health professionals. It is necessary to offer pregnant women correct guidelines regarding low back pain in order to reduce the inordinate use of allopathic medications and enable new strategies for symptom relief in order to promote health and a better quality of life during pregnancy.
