Abstract:
The emergence of mental distress in children and adolescents and their consequences do arise or worsen conflicts and difficulties in family dynamics, making the people involved in the care of this child need help to deal with issues such as fault, overload, pessimism and social isolation that may arise. In this process, called attention to the mother figure, which has already culturally the role of caretaker of the family, and after the diagnosis, possibly become the main provider of health care to the child. This study aimed to know the stories of mothers of children with mental disorders that are linked to Psychosocial Care Center Child (CAPSi). This is an exploratory and descriptive qualitative approach, performed in CAPSi in Campina Grande / PB. The sample consisted of five mothers of children who are in mental distress and the production of empirical material was made by means of interviews with the collaborators. The methodology used was thematic oral history, proposed by Meihy thus from the narratives were prepared three themes: 1) "suffering in Paradise": The difficulties encountered in the care of children with mental distress.; 2) The path of stones: the trajectory of the mothers of the discovery of the disease to health services; 3) "The heroines and their super-powers": The ways of coping with difficulties experienced. It was noted then that the mother figure is more susceptible to impairment of physical and mental diseases, by assuming the role of primary caregiver, being prone to problems caused by heavy workloads, another difficulty faced by the mother was the difficulty in accepting the child's disease and prejudice experienced in the community, during the account of the trajectory of mothers with their children in the health service, they mentioned the difficulty of the health professional to establish a definitive diagnosis and often false. Axis regarding the coping, it was clear the importance of family and social support networks. It is important to highlight the need for building social support networks, so that the mother feel more welcomed and supported by your community, you realize that, is valuable guidance for families of children with mental illness, which should be better informed about mental illness and its limitations in child development.
