Resumen:
The present work aimed to study the use of extraction tailings and
mica processing focusing on applications in the cosmetics industry and the like, in
Muscovite samples from the State of Paraíba. Iron content was one of the criteria that was
used to select only one of the samples that was used in the continuity of the
essay. In the natural sample, a physical, mineralogical and chemical characterization was initially performed through the techniques of x-ray diffraction (XRD), differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis (ATD - TG), particle size determination, X-ray fluorescence ( FRX) and wet chemical analysis. Next, micronization and chemical whitening studies were performed with fractions below 0.5 mm and 44 µm;
respectively. According to the results obtained, it can be concluded that in the best test, the treated mineral presented an iron content of 0.50% and granulometry less than 44 micrometres. The results showed that the muscovite micas of Paraíba had potential when the purpose and the obtaining of pigments destined to the industry, mainly of cosmetics and paints.
