Resumo:
The Brazil of the 1940s, in its political context, was marked by several changes, both nationally and in the state as well as in municipal territory. One such change was the process of redemocratization of the country, which occurred in 1945. This process was consolidated in the 1947 municipal elections. It was in that context that Nelson Lacerda de Oliveira was elected mayor of São José de Piranhas. This study aims to investigate the representations of Lacerda’s political trajectory and the changes that have occurred in society since his administration, in order to grasp its implications in political and socio-cultural relations of the municipality previously mentioned, between 1947 and 1951. Therefore, we will consider his biography and the repercussions that his public life got in the several speeches analyzed. The study will be conducted through bibliographical research (works by regional authors that portrays Lacerda’s history and trajectory, newspapers etc.), and interviews, based on Oral History.
