Resumo:
The objective of this study is to discuss trade relations between Brazil and the UE in the period covered by the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2010), from the perspective of the establishment, viability and maintenance of these relationships. It is not intended here to detail the trade relations between Brazil and the European bloc: what country sells to European nations, which collects in these business transactions, if there is a deficit in the trade balance etc. The work aims to demystify some established views about the success of Brazilian foreign policy in managing Lula da Silva. Issues like commodities export to China as a major cause of the success of Lula's foreign policy and disagreements between Brazil and the European Union on issues such as export of Brazilian agricultural products will be reviewed here. We use texts as subject matter experts Paulo Roberto de Almeida, Amado Luiz Cervo and Paul Fagundes Vizentini, and official data from government agencies like the Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade. Therefore, it is expected to confront the Lula government through one of the aspects of his administration: trade relations with the European Union.
