Resumo:
The present study aims to analyze the figure of Padre Cicero Romão Batista (1844-
1934) by Cordel Literature. We studied the contribution of this popular language for
building the image of a cleric that loose his religious orders, as a divine man. The
Cordel Literature found in northeastern Brazil the space conducive to its spread. This
space is also presents as a breeding place for the creation of a popular saint. In
northeastern flyers, dried consisting one of the main features of the Sertão, are
interpreted by a religious bias, where the only appropriate alternative to the backcountry
is pray to the heavens and ask for divine protection. This protection is presented in the
documentation reviewed, intrinsically linked to the figure of Padre Cícero. Therefore,
based on previous studies on the said topic, analyze how discourses undertaken in flyers
Cordel reinforced the popular imagination transform a common man into a saint.
