Abstract:
This paper presents an analysis of the contribution of playful practices in the methodology of teaching chemistry. These new practices have been growing and gaining importance in the educational scene. The traditional teaching methods no longer meet current needs in our society. Science education nowadays should promote the development of critical and engaged citizens. Educational materials are essential tools for the improvement of the learning process, and the games are important tools since they require student to actively participate and they attempt to materialize abstract concepts. This work was developed to highlight and analyze the game features that enhance teaching practices and learning ones, overcoming the traditional approach which was focused on memorization and reproduction.
The games were applied to elucidate the concepts of Atomic Theory and the Periodic Table, for verification and analysis of these characteristics. The outcomes of this research showed that the game acts favorably in various phenomena such as socialization, creativity, motivation and cognition. Thus, the game increases students’ engagement, and improve their abilities to solve problems.
Finally, the approach throughout the game encourages logical thinking of student and facilitates his learning process.
