Resumo:
The aim of this work is to study bentonites treated with polymeric additives for application in water based drilling fluids. Samples of industrialized bentonite clays from Paraiba containing clays considered of inferior quality in its composition and samples of commercial polymeric additives used in the oil industry were selected.
The drilling fluids were prepared with 2,5 wt% and 4,86 wt% of clay treated with a polymeric compound in ten differents compositions gotten by means of the experimental design. The results show that: i) the use of the mixture design and methodology of response surface is an adequate tool to the study of combination of polymeric raw material with different characteristics making possible the attainment of a polymeric compound with properties adjusted for the use as
additive for bentonites; ii) the fluids prepared with 2,5 wt% of clay present better rheological properties and of filtration in according to Petrobras standards and iii) the use of additives in bentonite clays of inferior quality with polymeric compound guarantees the continuity of its use in the preparation of the drilling fluids.
