Resumo:
The deforestation of permanent preservation áreas, riparian vegetation and top
of hills for agro-pasture and mining is what happens in basins of Brazil. As result, this brings the deterioration of the environment, erosion and soil compaction, silting (of rivers, dams and lakes), flooding, loss of natural habitat, wastage of forest resources, water and air pollution and destruction of fauna and flora. The objective of this assignment is to measure and assess the silting of the Santa Luzia Public Lake, using techniques of geoprocessing. An automated bathymetry was developed in Santa Luzia Public Lake in 2006 and the results were compared with data of its construction project. A silting of 3.310.250, 00 mJ was observed, 27% of its original volume in 73 years o f operation. It is concluded that the removal of native vegetation (deforestation of the river bank, watercourse and riparian vegetation) for agriculture, livestock and mining practiced in slope áreas and of permanent preservation without conservationist treatment in the basin of Santa Luzia Public Lake has contributed for its silting.
