Resumo:
Cmss-hole test results carried out in a tropical clayey sand from Pederneiras city, in the
central western region in Sao Paulo State are presented. The attained results show the
advantages of using different seismic sources in order to determine the Young and maximum
shear modulis and the Poisson ratio This dissertation deals with the limitations of the
traditional correlation used to estimate maximum shear modulus (Go) based from SPT test
results, as well as the validation of the specific correlation to estimate Go for the studied soil.
The differences between dynamic soil properties calculated based on results from two
different cross-hole tests are pointed. The differences can be related to soil variability that can
be associated to the genetic characteristics and to the partially saturated soil condition as well
as to a probable anisotropy, since the cross-hole tests were carried out in almost orthogonal
directions. In this case, correlations to estimate maximum shear modulus based a current in
situ tests, such us SPT, is difficult to be established.
