Abstract:
The families that take care of children with special needs give to that one’s a different attention perceiving the particularities determined by every single need; considering this reality, the care that a child with special need requires are from a complex nature and intense routine, changing the life style of the family that takes care of the child, causing stress, family crises affecting their social relations. Those relations determined the following leading question: which are the reports of the families that take care of a child with special need in Cuité Town – Paraíba? This way, the research has as objectives: To identify the principal difficulties faced by the families that take care of children with special needs; To characterize the profile of the sample of the children with special needs families in urban zone of Cuité town – PB; To identify the meaning of the care to the child with special needs given by the family that take care of it; To describe the feelings expressed by the families that take care of children with special need about their quality of life. It was used a qualitative approach of explorative and descriptive kind. To the analyses and interpretation of the empiric material information it was chosen the methodological approach of Collective Subject Discourse conceived in Lefèvre, Lefèvre (2005). The data were collected in the period from March to April of 2012, for half-structured interviews with twelve people that take care of children with special needs living in Cuité town – Paraíba, indexed in the Units of the Family Basic Health (UFBH). The Analysis of the data began from the realization of the DSC construction. From each one of the statements were extracted key expressions (ECH) that had the same main idea of the speeches. The data were discussed based in literature connected to the theme. As a result six IC detached in questions about the care to the child with special needs: 1) Expression of feelings in front to the impact of the news about a birth of a child with special needs; 2) The facing lonely of the adaptation process to care the child with special needs; 3) The necessity of groups to support the care of the children with special needs; 4) The care with the special need child; 5) The life experience and the contribution to the care with the special need son; 6) Implications and challenges of having a child with special need in the family. The reality of these families, revealed all the difficulties and the means of facing found by them to deal with the routine of the assistance in their homes, what evidenced the importance of the assistencial-educative role of the professional nurse to the effectuation of this process. It possible to conclude that work with the family members of the children with special needs represented personal growing for the learning acquired and, in special, biggest knowledge and respect for the alterity.
