Entomology is the study of insects and it is known that there are about 30 orders of these animals. They have their breeding process very fast and can easily adapt to any environment, thus resulting in a multitude of species to be discovered and studied by man. This research aimed to conduct a survey of the fauna of Coleoptera, in order to establish practical and laboratory guidelines for field studys of these insects in the classes of Biological Sciences, at the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande - UFCG. Was developed at the Horto Florestal Olho d'Água da Bica, in the county of Cuité, Paraíba State. The collection of beetles was held during the month of July and August 2013, by the method of pitfall trap, often weekly. We used different kinds of baits (meat, fruit and feces). After collection, the specimens were placed in plastic pots containing alcohol 70% solution. In the laboratory, the samples were screened and identified to entomological order. The data were analyzed quantitatively determining percentages. Of the total of 274 organisms caught, 40% (n=110) were beetles. Among other organisms, the most representative group was Hymenoptera with 55.5% (n=91). For the three sampled areas, the second area was that have less number of organisms (organisms 25.55%, n=70; beetles 22.73%, n=25). Regarding the kind of bait used, the banana was the most attracted the organisms in all three areas. However, only for Coleoptera, there was one equality of attraction of individuals from the traps with feces and fruit, while meat attracted only one beetle (2.27%, n=1). We consider this study as the primary method of attracting beetles were traps feces and fruit, adapting well to the area studied. Indicate a guide of practical and laboratory classes in field, highlighting the main directives for collection of these animals.
