Resumen:
Health professionals, especially the nursing team, are exposed to various types of chemical, physical and biological agents when practicing their function in the work environment. Although this profession is concerned with the care and prevention of illness of its patients, workers are increasingly suffering from within the workplace due to occupational risks, inadequate conditions, psychological stress, among other reasons. Thus, the present study seeks to contribute to a descriptive and exploratory research on the health of the nursing professional, addressing the context of occupational hazards, occupational diseases, the regulatory norm responsible for determining guidelines for workers, and nurses' their functions and preventive measures, in order to avoid diseases and accidents at work. In order to deepen the subject, academic papers, scientific articles and online journals were used that specify on the proposed theme. The study collected data referring to a University Hospital located in the interior of Paraíba. It was possible to identify that innumerable factors can lead to the profile of occupational diseases, so it is necessary for the responsibles and managers to develop strategies and guidelines to reduce and minimize risks to improve the quality of life of employees. With the result it was seen that in the hospital there is no report of a nurse affected by illness caused by their job. It is concluded that measures of prevention and mediation of actions are being effective.
