Resumo:
The climacteric period is marked by women’s diminishment in hormonal production through exhaustion of ovarian follicles. It is on this phase that they cease producing the main female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, causing the metabolism to slow down, thus making the first climacteric-related symptoms to appear. During this period opportunistic diseases also appear, occasioned by bad life habits. It aimed up to evaluate the occurrence of grievances on the lives of women at climacteric age, as well as to delineate the socio-demographic profile and identify risk factors related to the occurrence of harms during climacteric. It is a transversal study, with a quantitative approach, sampling 330 between the ages of 35 and 65 years, carried out at Cajazeira’s urban area, in “Unidades da Saúde” (Health Unities) posts, with questionnaire elaborated by the researcher herself. For data’s grouping and analysis, the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program was used, having proportion as a parameter and average as a central tendency measure. The research was backed by the 466/12 Resolution and approved by the Comitê de Ética da Faculdade Santa Maria (Santa Maria College’s Ethics Committee). This study has revealed a major number of women at half-climacteric phase, who used to live with partners, have declared themselves as white people, non-alcoholic and non-smoker, who had a regular number of meals, although these last ones were of questionable quality. The most prevailing diseases during this period were cardiovascular disease (CVD - DCV for the short in Portuguese), diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis and hormonal disorders. The majority of them (71%) have had already manifested gynecological infections. It has been concluded that women at climacteric age frequently seek out the assistance of the public health system. But they don’t get the correct information related to the prevention of diseases at most of times, nor basic care needed in order to make this period in life easier to deal with and with little negative consequences to their quality of life. It is needed to invest on the capacitation of professionals in the area of Health, for they would be able to receive and shelter in humanized form the women at climacteric age.
