Resumo:
In arder to study the physical and hidricas characteristics of a Costal Board soil, an experiment
was carried out in farm of H. Dantas Firm in District of Irrigation Plato of Neopolis, State of
Sergipe - Brasil on which is cultivated green dwarf coconut exclusively for production of
coconut water. The studied area presented typical characteristics of the Coastal Boards, with
plane relief, sandy soil, poor in nutrients and coesa layers. The characteristics studied (density,
porosities water retention and capillary conductivity) showed that, effectively, there exists
coesa layers. The values obtained for the characteristics also showed a high coherence of these
when used to identify the hardsetting layer. The method used to determine the capillary
conductivity apparently can be used on this soil . Independently of this, it was confirmed that
the Capillary conductivity increase exponentially with the soil water content. From the
attributes studied, the capillary conductivity, the water retention and the soil density it seems
to be the best tools to identify the coesa layers. The existence of these sort of dense layers,
mainly those close to the surface, together with the climatic characteristics of the region
promote important alterations in the physical and hidricas characteristics of the soils. The
alterations provoked by the hardsetting layers on the infiltration and dynamics of the water on
the soil must be considered when planning an efficient soil and water management at the
Irrigation District Plato of Neopolis from Sergipe state - Brasil.
