Resumo:
The extraction of minerals non metallic in the State of Paraiba was classified by
the Superintendency of Administration of the environment as the second largest
generating activity of industrial solid residues in the state. This research was
accomplished with the objective principal of characterizing the residue generated by the
companies of kaolin improvement with relationship to your physical and mineralogical
characteristics, with relationship to the risks to the environment and to also study the
technical viability of the use of this residue in the production of fencing blocks without
structural function. The residue was classified according to ABNT NBR-10004/04'S
norm as II-TO, material non inert, needing embankments for the fact of possessing
cadmium and manganese in amounts above specified by the norm. The physical
characterization was accomplished through the rehearsals: apparent specific mass and
grain size distribution, the mineralogical characterization for the X ray diffraction,
thermal analyses (ATD and ATG) and chemical analysis. For the technological
rehearsals of resistance to the compression and absorption of water were moulded
blocks with dimensions of 9x19x39cm, in the line 1:6 with residue incorporation in the
proportions of 40, 70 and 100% in relation to the small aggregate. After the analysis of
the results, it was verified that the blocks us which 40 and 70% of residue were used in
substitution to the sand, they presented inside to the 28 days of cure values of the
established limits for the norm ABNT NBR-7171/92, being it of 70% the more
recommended by the fact of using larger amount of residue. The residue volume
generated monthly it allows the monthly production of 2.000.000 of blocks, enough to
build 1.000 houses of social interest.
