Resumen:
This work was carried out in Cuité and Nova Floresta cities, Paraíba state, and aimed to evaluate the quality of public water supply through the analysis of total and fecal coliforms. Furthermore, it aimed to perform scientific divulgation of the data to the scholar community (students and teachers). Water samples were collected from October 2011 to January 2012 in two points before the treatment station and one after treatment. The defined substrate technology was used to determine the coliforms presence (Colilert ®). Analyses of water samples revealed differences in microbiological water quality among the sampling points. The awareness activities were conducted through oral presentations, with a simplified language, followed by stimulated debates on the subject and the role of every citizen in maintaining the water quality of the reservoir. A total of 130 students and 6 high school teachers were present in the debates in Cuité city, while 200 students and 8 high school teachers were present in Nova Floresta city.
