Resumen:
The process of separation of water / heavy oil and ultra-viscous via hydrocyclones
have been widely used in the petroleum industry in the treatment of oily waters in
particular, on oil rigs. In this sense, this paper proposes a numerical study of this process
using the commercial code ANSYS CFX 11.0. The mathematical model considers the
particle model (Eulerian - Eulerian) to treat the two-phase flow water / heavy oil and ultraviscous,
three-dimensional, stationary and non-isothermal turbulent regime (model RNG ks).
Results of stream lines, velocity fields, pressure, temperature and volume fraction of
phases are presented and analyzed. It was found that by varying the diameter of the
particles (oil drops) influences significantly the separation efficiency, the pumping power
and distribution temperature in the hydrocyclone.
