Resumo:
The present monograph aims to seek a more critical and reflective teaching by establishing a
link between theory and practice, between what is taught in school and that experienced in
everyday life. As a methodological proposal established the study of the environment as a
teaching method to overcome the dichotomy and the old teaching practices. From this
perspective, the present work entitled “Serra do Bongá and the Study of the Environment:
Knowledge and Practices in Geography Teaching” aims to expose the possibilities of teaching
this discipline, from the use of geographic objects whether natural or human. as instruments in
the teaching - learning process in Basic Education valuing the local geographical reality. We
propose here the case study of Serra do Bongá, as a methodological alternative for the teaching
of Physical Geography. The results obtained through the research were the geological -
geomorphological evolution of Serra do Bongá, besides a list of the main Caatinga flora species
in the area. Through this resource, it is possible to build a coherent education, based on local
practices. Finally, the aim of this work is to arouse the critical sense of space reading,
landscape reading, and also so that they can understand all the elements present in the
environment; doing with the daily paths, gain a new meaning, from a geographical look in
place.
