Resumen:
The rivers were considered strategic points for human habitation thanks to the benefits that would provide the society. Because of this, they have become part of the landscapes of small and large cities around the world. This process led to the use and occupation of land in environmentally fragile areas, called Permanent Preservation Areas, established by the Brazilian Forest Code in 1965. These are areas that border the rivers and ensure the protection of natural resources, as well as the well-being of human populations. Currently, PPAs bring with them a series of anthropogenic changes due to the delay of environmental laws and discourses, as well as the neglect of urban planning in Brazilian cities. This monograph aims to analyze the use and occupation in permanent preservation areas in the urban stretch of the Salgado River in the municipality of Lavras da Mangabeira-CE. The study was developed through the analytical-deductive method, with bibliographic research, field trip for analysis and photographic records and use of geotechnologies to make maps and charts. In the area were found five types of occupations, which are: residential areas, vegetation areas, animal husbandry, agriculture and exposed soil. Such occupations contributed to the generation of impacts that harm the environment and the population around them. The identification and evaluation of these processes will assist in decisions aimed at protecting the areas of these Permanent Preservation Areas, which, once preserved, favor the enhancement of the landscape, the natural heritage and the prevention of impacts directed to the society that lives nearby.
