Resumo:
Studies on urban afforestation are of paramount importance considering their benefits to
the social welfare and the fauna and flora present in a place. This work aims to
characterize the urban afforestation of Iara district, Barro, Ceará, highlighting the
presence of Indian neem (Azadirachta indica). The execution of the research was
developed through bibliographic research and field study. The results were shown in a
table and showed that most of the trees present in the study area are of exotic species, in
which the species that contains more individuals is that of Indian neem (Azadirachta
indica, followed by canafistula (Cassia fistula) and mesquite (Prosopisjuliflora) Other
options for urban afforestation with native species of the Caatinga biome are indicated,
and it is concluded that a reflection should be made about planted species, where the
cultivation of native species should be prioritized.
