Abstract:
The use of the formalism of Petri nets in modeling the protection and control systems of a
Hydroelectric Power. The objective is to implement a system of fault diagnosis in a power
plant to support the study of faults and provide an accurate and objective diagnosis of the
root cause of the shutdown of the generating unit, to support operators when making any
decision. The study was based on analysis of system protections, the historical analysis of
system faults contained in occurrence reports and historical record of the supervisor)' system.
Using the PIPE Application ("Platform Independent Petri Net Editor v4.2.1") was possible
to model Petri nets the main protections of the plant and verify the reduction of the number
of alarms generated in occurrence with shutdown of the generating unit, which reaches more
than 300 events to 5 events in an analysis window the event which is approximately five
minutes considering the protection tripping time to complete stoppage of the unit. The
proposed approach using Petri net is limited in analyzing the events caused by the firing
of electrical protections.
