Résumé:
Gypsies are a people of authentic social representativeness, because they seek to preserve the
memory of the culture of this population, being passed on from generation to generation.
However, caution is needed in the activities developed by constant cultural practice, alerting
to acquired vices and identifying evils, such as tobacco consumption, which can cause harm
to health both individually, and collectively. Through the health problem identified in the
gypsy community, this study promoted ways of rethinking the behavior of the gypsy man in
the face of tobacco consumption. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach using
action research. The same was developed with 10 gypsy men from the gypsy community,
Rancho de Cima, from the city of Sousa, in the state of Paraiba. Data were collected through
semi-structured interviews, analyzed descriptively and the discourses organized before the use
of the Discourse of the Collective Subject. The research began, after the approval of the
project by the Research Ethics Committee under opinion nº 2,338,568. The development of
the study took place in four stages: situational diagnosis, projection of actions, and
implementation of the same and evaluation of actions. The activities provided the discussion
of the evils arising from smoking, exposing mechanisms of contribution and strategies of
ways of rethinking the behavior of men smoking gypsies in the face of addiction, with a focus
on health education actions, in order to share knowledge, experiences and experiences. As a
result of the study, the scarcity of contact and knowledge of smokers is identified as being due
to the aforementioned types and forms of treatment, considering that this study did not have
the character of offering treatments, but to raise awareness and promote ways of acting
against smoking among Roma men. This makes the role of AB in contact with the needs and
productions of care in this scenario become relevant.
