Resumo:
The present study, which enter in the area of educational background and beginning teachers, aims to analyze how beginning teachers evaluate their training in Geography course in Centro de Formação de Professores (CFP), considering the challenges that arose at the beginning of the teaching career. The teachers participating in the research are undergraduate students in Geography Course at Universidade Federal de Campina Grande (UFCG) in Cajazeiras - PB, with up to three years of experience in the teaching profession. As a methodology, the qualitative research was chosen through a case study. However, quantitative indicators were used in order to present results as clearly as possible. Data collection for analysis were occurred using two types of strategies: questionnaire application and interview. The questionnaire was applied in order to characterize the personal and professional profile of the participating teachers. The semi-structured interview was organized in two ways of analysis based on educational background and beginning of teaching career. The research results demonstrated, among other aspects, the efficiency of the theoretical subjects of the course, but some of them are flawed and leave gaps. In relation to practical classes, some of them don't work because they are not connected to a reality of a real classroom and they have not intervention in the elementary school. However, the educational background provides the proximity of the students with the school, mainly through activities developed in research, extension and teaching projects. Due to this, it is necessary the curriculum of the course improve a lot as well as some subjects to benefit all current and future academic community.
