Resumo:
Nowadays, modern society has little concern with the environmental quality of its
liquid bodies, thus their degradation is increasingly observed. This monograph aims
to analyze the environmental impacts along the Salgado River, specifically in its
urban stretch, the city of Lavras da Mangabeira-CE. In the study area, anthropic
activities have caused negative environmental impacts, compromising soil
conditions, local fauna and flora and the Salgado River itself. The activities
responsible for the impacts concern the removal of riparian forest along the water
body, urban waste disposal, agricultural practices, disordered urban growth and the
lack of basic sanitation. These human actions end up causing increased runoff,
erosion and sedimentation processes in the reservoir, contributing to siltation. The
study is based on the deductive method and uses as research techniques,
documentary research, bibliographic research and field trip, in August of this year, to
perform data collection, in order to corroborate what the literature says. respect to
the theme. The results confirm that the human activities carried out in the study area
have contributed to its deterioration of the area's resources, in addition to
compromising the quantity and quality of water stored by the river, harming the
ecosystem as a whole, and the quality of human life. The negative environmental
impacts that were identified: lack of basic sanitation, urban waste, removal of riparian
forest, agricultural problems and disordered urban growth. This theme is of immense
importance, because through it the population will be able to have a better
knowledge about the environmental degradation that the Salgado River suffers and,
thus, can take the necessary actions to minimize this serious problem resulting from
human activities.
