Abstract:
Heavy Metal is the result of a web of events related to the musical field that occurred in the mid-1960s and early 1970s and gained definite and definitive strength in the 1980s with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the same time it started its fragmentation into different subgenres such as Trash Metal, Death Metal and Black Metal, which ended up composing the Metal scene. Regarding the genesis of Heavy Metal and its social implications, the subgenre was marked not only by “heavy” music and “shocking” aesthetics, but also by attacking conservative values morally accepted by society at that time. However, in the current socio-historical context, where the social and ideological contradictions in Brazil and in the world are even more accentuated, we see the reproduction of conservative and extreme right speeches and ideologies emerging in the movement. The incorporation of these ideas gave rise to a subgenre called Black Metal Nacional Socialista or NSBM. The present work aims to analyze the escalation of conservatism and the extreme right in the Metal scene, in addition to rescuing and apprehending its origins and social dynamics, considering its symbols, codes and meanings, as well as mental constructions imbricated in the speeches and performances of the actors belonging to the Metal scene.
