Resumen:
The sub-basin of the Barbado's stream is situated in the urban perimeter of Cuiaba's town. It
has a draining area of 917 ha, with a population estimated close to 70 thousands habitants, an
extension of 6.920 m between the districts of Morada do Ouro (fountain) and Praeiro (the
mouth of the stream) towards NE-SW. It works like a main receptor of the rainy waters of the
following districts: Morada do Ouro, Bela Vista, Canjica, Pedregal, Jardim Leblon, Renascer,
21 de Abril, Jardim Italia, Jardim das Americas, Jardim Petropolis, Jardim Tropical,
Praeirinho and Praeiro, which many of them are originated from illegal fixation of residences
that hadn't taken in consideration the environmental fragility and either the lack of
infrastructure, producing an intense environmental degradation. It can be observed along to its
whole extension high levels of erosion as consequence of deforestation, declivity and
disorganized occupation of land, caused by erosive process (grooves and ravines). Others
environmental problems are related to the sewage and residues in opening areas, pollution of
the aquifers and the draining, occupation of susceptible areas to overflowing occurrence and
civil engineering (ways and channels) bad planned. The mainly objective of this study has
been to make a diagnosis of the areas concerned to this sub-basin using the geotechnicgeologic
mapping as instrument of orientation to the planning of the environmental use and
occupation. It had been adopted a wide methodological approach concerning to the
bibliography, to the existent data collection and even to the posterior information "in loco "
that allowed to comprehend the impacts and the repercussions in the quality life of the
habitants. The cartographic documents have been elaborated in a scale of 1:50.000: geologic
map; map of the inconsistent material with soil depth; topographic, hydrographic and
hypsometric maps; map of declivity; map of the susceptibility to overflowing occurrence;
map of the susceptibility to erosion occurrence; map of the landed property regularization;
map of the behavior of the ground waters, map of the soil use and occupation and map of the
viability of urban development. From the analysis and the valuation of the environmental characteristics and even of the maps resulted from the research, it had been suggested basic
guidelines to the restoration, recuperation and rehabilitation of this sub-basin.
