Resumen:
Optimal planning and management policy studies for reservoir water use, within semiarid
regions, are necessary due the construction of other upstream reservoirs, which affects the
reservoir inflows, and the population and water related economic activities growth. The Poco
Redondo reservoir, a typical midi size reservoir chosen among the other ones at the Pianco
River basin, within the semiarid region of Paraiba state, has been chosen to perform such a
study. Therefore, the objective of this work is to optimize the water use of the Poco Redondo
reservoir while looking for the sustainability of the system and determining performance
indexes about water supply risks; such as reliability, resilience and vulnerability; and
irrigation performance; such as tax of occupation of the irrigated area, relative water supply
(FRA), relative irrigation water supply (FRI), average water supply (FMA) and global
consumption rate (RGC). The results have shown to be important to carry out such studies
because they are able to bring informations about their capacity to meet the water requirement
of urban water supply, irrigation and fishing activities.
