Abstract:
The present study aimed to enable the self-knowledge of quilombola women through educational actions on the prevention of cervical cancer. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, mediated by the methodology of action research. The research was carried out in the remaining quilombola community entitled "The Forty", which is located in the city of Triunfo, in the state of Paraíba. The participants of this research were women living in the quilombola community "The Forty", which currently has about 56 families. A social investigation was carried out with the execution of interventions as a possibility for the resolution of collective problems, in addition to the use of the Collective Subject Discourse method for the analysis of interviews. The participation of women in this research was based on the prior approval of the project by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Campina Grande under opinion no. 3,438,187. The development of the research occurred through the following steps: situational diagnosis, planning of actions, implementation of planned actions and evaluation of actions by the research participants. The initial analysis for educational actions showed the gaps relevant to Cervical Cancer, as well as the specificities in view of their preventive methods and their consequences in the quality of life of quilombola women, such as fear, shame and the consequence of self-neglect in the way these women deal with the disease and its preventive methods. Thus, it was possible to carry out the planning and execution of three meetings to carry out educational activities using active dynamics and methodologies, enabling the reflection and transmission of knowledge about this disease. The evaluations of educational actions were positive by the women participating in the study, in which they showed transformations in thoughts and beliefs about the disease.
