Resumen:
In this study, the transport of water vapor vertically integrated into the atmosphere
was analyzed in episodes of the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ). Four cases
were selected between January and March 2018. ERA-Interim data from the European
Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) were used to construct the maps
of the vertically integrated water vapor flow and the respective divergence. Two subareas
of 5º by 5º, centralized in the cities of Belo Horizonte and São Paulo, were used as
control volume for water vapor balance. The results point to the existence of water vapor
transport from the Amazon region to the southeast of Brazil associated to the performance
of the SACUs. Areas of convergence of vertically integrated water vapor predominate
along the northwest - southeast line. The water vapor balance has an average of -1.8; -
12.9; -0.7 and -5.0 mm / day for cases 1; 2; 3 and 4, respectively over the Belo Horizonte
area and -3.6; 2.0; -8.3 and 8.5 mm / day for cases 1; 2; 3 and 4, respectively on the São
Paulo area. Negative values indicate that precipitation has exceeded evapotranspiration
(water vapor sink).
