Resumen:
Chitosan has been used in various works in wastewater treatment due to its adsorbent capacity. Based on this characteristic, the present work evaluated the use of chitosan to remove the yellow 03, green 20 and navy 16 dyes in aqueous solutions of different concentrations, followed by subsequent filtration as an alternative treatment of dye effluent to reduce the discharge of these dyes compounds in the environment. The discoloration rate of standard dye solutions was evaluated using UV-Visible spectrophotometry and it observed that in the treatment of chitosan solution (200 mg.L-1) with different dye concentrations there was a reduction of 90% of the dye contents. It has also been found that the 10 minutes stirring time of chitosan with aqueous dye solutions is necessary to discolor the solutions about 90%. These results allow us to diagnose the effectiveness of chitosan combined with a low cost filter in the dye extraction process.
