Resumo:
This work presents a mathematical modelling to describe the drying of biological
products in crossllow dryer. The model is based on the mass and energy balance, written for a
diferential volume located in an arbitrary position of the solid layer. To obtain the numerical
solution of the governing equations, it was used the finite-volume method and the upwind
scheme as interpolation function for the convective terms. As application, the methodology
was used to describe the drying process of corn grain. Several results of the effect of the airdrying
conditions and thickness of the bed along the drying process presented and analyzed. It
was verified that, the numerical method of the finite-volumes could be used to simulate drying
process in a crossllow dryer, due to the good agreement obtained by the comparison between
numerical and experimental data.
