Resumo:
In this study certain characteristics of cirrus clouds such as the
height, temperature, emissivity and optical depth are investigated using Meteosat-5
satellite images obtained from the EIS expreriment during the period 25th March to
3 rd April 1995 in NE region.
Cloud temperatures obtained from satellite images indicate two
distinct types of cirrus clouds one of which is much thinner than the other. Cloud
heights were determined using radiosonde data. It is found that the thin clouds are
located at a lower altitude and have a higher temperature than the dense clouds,
the dense cirrus clouds have an emissivity very close to unity and an optical depth
value of abount six. Mean height and temperature of the cirrus clouds are 12,370m
and 220 K.
