A evolução histórica da ortografia da língua portuguesa:Implicações para o ensino.

Abstract

The present work deals with the historical aspects of orthography considering the evolution from the Classic Latin, passing through the Vulgar Latin, Galician- Portuguese, Archaic Portuguese until contemporary Portuguese. For this, we have as a general objective to analyze the historical evolution of Portuguese orthography to understand how these changes are significant for the effective teaching of orthography. In this sense, we defined as specific objectives: to describe the orthographic transformations that occurred during the expansion of the Roman Empire until the arrival in Iberian Peninsula; to know the three periods by which the orthography of the Portuguese language has changed: the phonetic, the pseudo- etymological and simplified; and to suggest possibilities of contextualized teaching of orthography, considering the aspects of regularities and irregularities of the language. The research is qualitative as it does not intend to quantify data to obtain results, and it is bibliographical, since it is based on works already published. As a theoretical apparatus we anchor in Coutinho (2011), Cardeira (2005) and Gonçalves (2007) to deal with the history of the Latin language and the historical processes of transformation of the Portuguese language; Bagno (2007) with the historical and social perspective of mother tongue teaching; and Morais (2008) and Monteiro (2008) with instructions directed to the Portuguese teacher regarding the teaching of orthography. Thus, through these theoretical conceptions that enrich the research about our language, we intend to suggest possible teaching approaches that consider the previous knowledge of the students, taking into account also the entire evolutionary and historical process of orthography in the school environment.
