This research has as general objective to collaborate for a continuous formation of
teachers of the basic education through the structuring of a workshop on the
substantive, anchored in the textual genres. In order to fulfill this objective, we list the
concepts of the substantive noun for normative grammar and for the Mattosiana
descriptive grammar; we selected the genders for the study proposal in the
substantive name workshop; we structured a study workshop for teachers of the
Elementary School on the name substantive from the genres. The research is based
mainly on the theoretical postulates of the linguist Camara Jr (2011) and also in other
theorists who approach the subject. Regarding to the nature of the work, the
research can be called bibliographical, since it uses theoretical postulations already
elaborated. The categories used to work with the noun were the three criteria defined
by Camara Jr (2011): the morphic, which concerns the form of the words; the
semantic, related to sense; and the syntactic, which refers to the function of words in
relation to other terms. The research presents as final product a workshop directed to
teachers of Elementary School, aiming to contribute to the teachers' performance
regarding the substantive name. As a result of the research, we built a grammar
workshop for teachers, in which we prioritize the work with the substantive name,
without, however, refusing to study the other names (adjective and adverb). The
workshop worked on the grammar, but through texts, which we believe will bring
greater results to the learner with regard to language analysis.
