Résumé:
The lettuce is considered one of the most important leafy vegetables in the
diet of Brazilian and worldwide, as a food source, rich in vitamins and minerais. The
substrate for the production of seedlings is to ensure the development of a plant with
quality in short time, and low cost ín handling. This study aimed to evaluate the
different substrates in the production of seedlings for transplanting and age of the
cultívation of lettuce. The experiment was conducted at the Laboratory Didactic of the
Unidade Acadêmica de Agronomia e Tecnologia de Alimentos do Centro de Ciências
e Tecnologia Agroalimentar of the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande,
Campus of Pombal - PB, in the period April to June 2009. The treatments were
distributed in a factorial arrangement of 2x5, the first factor representing the two
substrates (the worm humus and organic compound and the second the ave seasons
of transplanting seedlings (23, 25, 27, 29 and 31 days after the seeder - DAS ). The
experiment followed the randomized block design with three replications. At 30 days
after transplanting of seedlings were evaluated: number of leaves, plant height, stem
length, root length, diameter, fresh weight of shoot. For the number of leaves, stem
length, root length and fresh weight of lettuce plants. The results show that both the
use of organic compost with the humus of worm with day and are excellent
substrates for the culture of lettuce transplanting ranged between 29 and 31 DAS.
