Abstract:
It is undeniable the social role of the university and its commitment to provide a more just and democratic educational process for the production of knowledge and implementation of inclusionist policies, to meet diversity, contributing to social inclusion and human development. Therefore, this work aims to analyze if the UFCG - Campus Sousa-PB and its servers are or are not prepared to meet the educational needs of students with visual impairment and thus guarantee the inclusion and permanence of the students in the university. To reach the pretension, a bibliographic study on the subject was carried out, contextualizing historically the deficiency, addressing the conceptual aspects: accessibility, Assistive Technologies, legal instruments and aspects related to inclusion in higher education. Methodologically the research is characterized as an exploratory field research. To collect the data, a sample composed of servers that are part of the consecutive sectors was selected: Coordination of the Social Work course; Sectoral Library; IT Sector; Nucleus of Student Assistance; Direction of the Center and Subprefeitura. This universe composed of 6 (six) sectors consists of several servers, of which the research selected a sampling of 1 (one) server responsible for each of these sectors. The results found that the Federal University of Campina Grande - Campus Sousa-PB and its servers are not prepared to meet the educational needs of students with visual impairment and this has been generated extreme difficulties for these students, either for the access, or for the permanence in the university. Therefore, it is necessary for the University to invest in the definition of an institutional policy for the construction of inclusive practices that benefit the teaching / learning process and social interaction of students with disabilities.
