Résumé:
English language teaching faces several challenges in Brazil related to historical, economic and
social factors. In this context, priority is given to the use of technical teaching strategies that,
by using the grammatical method, neglect the development of orality, making the teaching and
learning process of the second language (L2) a frustrating experience for the student. Orality is
important in the development of learners, as it promotes motivation, interaction and helps
develop the four communicative skills. The Neurolinguistic Approach (NLA), which aims to
learn the language through the practice of orality, striving for the development of an internal
grammar by to provide interaction between students in an authentic and contextualized way. In
this sense, the aim of this paper is to propose the use of RPG (Role-Playing Game) for the
practice of orality in English language classes, as a game that promote the interaction and
motivation to learning. To this end, we suggest applying the NLA to work with orality in the
classroom, discussing the importance of orality in English language classes and observing the
use of RPG in language teaching. This work is a descriptive and propositive research of
bibliographic nature, which proposes the use of RPG through an Interactive Didactic Sequence
(SDI) that can be applied in high-school, approaching as theoretical framework the following
researchers Aslén (1984), Silva (2008), Netten and Germain (2012), Gonçalves (2010), Balbino
et al (2019), Solace (2000), Deitos (2013), Silva and Calvo (2013), Schmit (2008), Farkaš
(2018), Phillips (1993), Oliveira (2013), among others. We hope that through the didactic
sequence proposed in this work, students will be able to develop linguistic and cultural
knowledge about language and interaction and communication skills. Thus, we believe that this
research can contribute significantly to the teaching of languages regarding orality, providing
an understanding of its importance for the process of teaching and learning the English
language.
