Resumo:
The mining is an economic activity in the state of the Paraiba, possessing a great potential in the kaolin mining and granite. Conscientious of the hazard caused in the ambient inadequate deposition of the reject produced due to inadequate deposition
process of these minerals, the UFCG is developing studies directed to the me-use of these waste materials, either by incorporating into mix, as "to filler" in the production of asphalt mixtures, of in the fabrication of silica-whitewash bricks or in the use in blocks with and without structural function which can be used in civil construction. This thesis
has the objective of studying the potentiality of the block-type kaolin residue for use of simple concrete without structural function. In order to achieve this characterization tests such as: grain size distribution; specify gravity, unit weight, chemical analysis, termodiferencial and termogravimetric analysis and X ray diffraction. For the technological tests conventional mixer was traces 1:4 studied; 1:6 and 1:8 and with
incorporation of kaolin residue in the proportions of 15% and 20% in relation to the mass of the small aggregate (sand) present in the conventional mixer. The physical and mechanical properties of the blocks were determined through the unconfined compressive tests and water absorption in accordance with the ABNT NBR 7184/91 and
NBR 1211/91 respectively. After analysis of the results it can be concluded that the blocks of conventional concrete without incorporated structural function with kaolin residues presented values according to specifications of Brazilian Association of Norms Techniques.
