Abstract:
This research is centered on the theme of masculinity and literature, and its general objective
is to analyze how the masculinity construction takes place in The Hour of the Star. Therefore,
we seek to understand some issues, such as, how are the masculinities of the narrator Rodrigo
SM developed? and Olympic? As for the masculinity presented in the work, does it resemble
any pattern? Or, is there any difference between the masculinities exposed by the characters
analyzed, besides, as they occur to the masculine practices of the northeastern man? To
answer such questions, we look at the corpus and gender criticism. Through four chapters, we
seek to list relevant points for the discussion we propose. Initially we have a preview of what
will be worked on, then we made a cut through the gender critique, in order to understand
what is already being discussed in the object of study regarding the theme of gender, made
this survey, in which we arrived some important conclusions, among them, the issue of the
gap of studies referring to the agenda of masculinity in the worked work, which gap
contributes to the justification of the existence of this work. Then we move on to a discussion
centered on the main theories that underlie our research, thus trying to situate the reader about
important concepts that would be used throughout the work, such as gender performance.
Finally, we came to some important results, which demonstrated the existence of the study
gap in this analysis bias, and also, in which we could identify that both characters glimpsed an
ideal of hegemonic masculinity, in addition to both performing their genres, we show. still the
northeastern masculinity of Olímpico, and its peculiarities. We base our research mainly on
the theoretical postulations of author Connell (1995) and author Butler (2003), as well as
other important theorists. Regarding the nature of the work, the research is bibliographic,
since it uses already elaborated theoretical postulations and can be classified as descriptive
and qualitative.
