Resumo:
The state of the Paraiba is a great red ceramics producer, however, many times, the
industrial process of the manufacture of this type of ceramics is little efficient, presenting
unnecessary expenses and damage to the environment. Aiming at to improve part of this
process, the motivation for the study appeared of the behavior of some properties of the
refractory and porous ceramic parts to analyze the possibility of them to be used as
covering of the walls of the ovens of the plants, with the objective to improve the thermal
isolation of the environment and to diminish the amount of energy used in the burning
process. In the development of the porous matrix a composition of clay and sand was used,
in ratio 2:1 with wooden dust addition in ratios 0%, 10% and 20% in relation to the total
volume of the composition. All the parts had been elaborated by the method of drawing,
forest fires in the temperatures 950°C, 1050°C and 1200°C and submitted to the humidity
text assays, linear retraction of drying, loss of mass to the fire, linear retraction of burning,
real specific mass, apparent porosity, water absorption, real density and resistance to the
flexao. Analyzing the results, one concluded that a viable possibility of the exploitation of
the substances exists cousins used in the process of manufacture of the refractory and
porous parts ceramic for desired end.
