Resumo:
The bees of the species 4p/s me///fera pollinators are generalists as they visit daily
diHerent types of flowers, however, are at risk of beíng poisoned by planta containing
secondary compounds that may inhibit their activities. The Turnera suba/afa Sm is a
plant popularly known as chanana distributed throughout Northeast, widely used in
folk medicine, containing various chemical compounds, able to intoxicate their
pollinators, has showy flowers that bloom throughout the year. Therefore, the aim of
the study was to evaluate a possible toxic effect of flowers Turnera suba/afa the
Africanlzed honey bee .4p/s me///Écrã in laboratory conditions. The experiment was
conducted at the Laboratory of Entomology at the Academic Unit of Agricultural
Sciences Center Agrifood Sciences and Technology, Federal University of Campina
Grande. Bioassays were conducted in environmental chamber to 32 ' C and 70%
humidity. The flowers of T. sul)u/afa were collected near the Federal University of
Campina Grande, campus de Pombal, dried at 40 ' C for 72 h, crushed and sieved
through nylon sieve, forming a fine powder that was weighed at three concentrations
(0.25g , 0.50g and l.Og) with respect to the weight of the candy. The powder was
mixed with candy in their proper concentrations, placed in plastic containers of 10 ml,
covered with wire mesh, and served the workers of .4. me///cera newly emerged,
distributed set of 20 in wooden box. measuring ll cm lona x ll wide and 7 inches
tall and holes in the sides closed with nylon fabric, lined with paper filter with glass
lids. The experiment was conducted in completely randomized design consisting of
three treatments (0.25g, 0.50g and 1.0g) and one control, distributed in three
replications. Data were collected by counting workers killed twenty-four hours after
treatment application. The data were passed to the program PRISM 3.0 that made
the construction of the statistics and graphs and analyzed using the non-parametric
log-rank test, the comparison of survival curves. Flower extractsT. st/l)u/afa showed
toxicity to 4. me///fera concentration 1.0% survival at 13 days, low toxicity
concentration 0.50g in 17 days survival and no toxicity at a concentration 0.25g
survival of 20 days, the survival chancing bees concentration 0%.
