Abstract:
Caatinga forest species have great responsibllity for ecosystem maintenance and
Brazílian semiarid region population incomel however deforestation and ülres are
made se irrational for openlng up áreas for cultivation, pasture production and
firewood exploitation. This has resulted in soil degradation and biodiversity loss in
semíarid region. An alternative that can help in degraded restoration áreas in the
Caatinga is the production species seedlings of Biome, with greater resistance to
transplanting and field conditions. The study aimed to evaluate and recommend
substrates for production of seedlings of four forest species occurring in the
Caatinga, with potential for restoration of degraded áreas. Because of the economic
and environmental potential in region and ecological succession in degraded áreas
restoration, species studied were: angico - .4nadenanfhera co/uórfna (Vell.) Brenan,
pau-ferro - l-/l)/d/ó/a férrea (Maré. ex Tul.) L.P.Queiroz, jurema.preta : M/mofa
fenulã7ora (Willd.) Poir and catingueira - soir?c/ane//a pyram/da//s (Tul.) L.P.Queiroz.
In this study, each species corresponded to an experiment arranged.D a completely
randomized design with four treatments and four replications. The substrates
evaluated were composed of soil, soil + caule manure + sand + rice hullsl solo +
sheep manure + sand + rice hulls and commercial substrate. The growth parameters
evaluated were plant height, stem diameter, fresh shoot weight and root, short dry
weight and root and total dry matter, and quality índices: relative plant height /
diameter ratio, relative plant height / Dry weight of shoot, dry weight ratio of shoot /
root dry mass, and the Dickson quality index. The substrate consists of soir is
indicated for angico, pau-ferro and catingueira seedling production, while for jurema
seedlings production recommended substrate composed soir, caule manure, sand
and ride hulls.
