Resumen:
The cultivation in greenhouses has presented a number of advantages, such as
increased productivityl improved product qualityl decrease in seasonality of supplyl
providing greater competitiveness for the possibility of offering quality products all
year round, even in the off seasonl better use of factors of production, especially
fertilizers, pesticides and waterl total or partiam control of climatic factorsl keep
workers in the field, reducing the rural exodus and creating jobst improvements in the
conditions of the workplacel and option to increase profitability of agricultural
enterprise (MARTINS, 2003). In addition to requiring a particular environmental
conditioning plants, require a good nutrient supply se that they have.a good
production and development during their life cycle. This work aimed to evaluate the
effect of the different nutrient concentrations in the nutrient solution applied in
different types of environments in the growing of watermelon. The experiment was
carried at the Centro de Ciências e Tecnologia Agroalimentar (CCTA), Campus -
Pombal/PB, belonging to the Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, from
04/2012 to 07/2012 in greenhouse and natural environment, using the watermelon
hybrid 'Quetsali' (Crimson Sweet type). The treatments consisted of ave leveis of
nutrients concentration in the nutrient solution in watermelon (12.5%; 25%; 50%l
75%. and 100%) and three types of environments (Greenhouse with plastic,
greenhouse with shading and plastic, and natural environment). .The experimental
design was completely randomized with four repetitions. The nutritive solution used
as a base it was Hoagland and Arnon in concentration of 100%. Using this solution, it
was obtained by dilution the other concentrations. The open-air environment along
with the nutrient solution concentrations influenced the increase in growth
characteristics of watermelon. Increases were assigned the values of the
physiological characteristics of watermelon in the environments of open-air and
greenhouse with plastic cover and shading the sedes when used nutrient
concentrations in the nutrient solution.
