Resumo:
The production of melon in the state of Paraíba has been little significant, requiring
the import of fruits from other states. therefore, the import of fruit could be reduced by
the spread of new farming techniques among producers of Paraíba. In the melon
crop, biomass and parts can be manipulated by agronomic practices, interfering with
assimilates partition between vegetative and reproductive organs. with various forms
of manipulation of relationship source:sink. These changes in relationship
source:sink influente on yield and fruit quality at harvest. The objective of this study
was evaluate the productivity and quality of muskmelon due to changes in the
relationship source:sink. The experiment was conducted during the period from
August to November 2012 in the experimental área of the Center for Science and
Technology Agrifood, the Federal University of Campina Grande. The treatments
were arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) with split plots consisting of the
conduct of plata with different number of rods (one atem, two stems and three
branches) and the sub-plot of the number of fruits per plant (l and 2 fruits), with four
replications. The Mirage hybrid Cantaloupe group was grown in the spacing 2.0 x 0.5
m, being evaluated for growth characteristics, production and fruit quality. The
changes induced in melon plant by pruning the stems and fruit thinning provided
alterations in the source:sink. The increase in the number of fruits per plant was
responsible for the largest percentage of dry matter accumulation in the plant
independent of the number of rods.
